about me

hi! i'm marina. i'm a new york based theatrical director primarily interested in new work development.  i graduated from nyu gallatin where I crafted my own major of politics, performance and the built environment.  i blended my studies of critical theory, urban design, political science and performance to analyze how theater can be used as a tool of democracy, empathy, and connection in our increasingly isolated world.

i most enjoy working on projects that utilize the absurd as a way into the emotional truth of our current moment, whether that means shadow puppet gut monsters, a prophet who plays fortnite and makes beats on soundcloud, or literally becoming the person you love.

a major part of my practice is creating work that challenges who theater is for.  low cost tickets, encouraging authentic audience response in the room, creating afterparties for community connection post-show, and out-of-the-box outreach methods are all a part of my endeavor to make theater feel exciting and fresh to all audiences.

diy values are at the core of my work and it's a pleasure for me to devise ways to do a lot with a little. the rehearsal room is always a collaborative learning space for me - and a place to challenge and deepen my understanding of the world in community.
